January 21 was the first wedding of my 2023 year, and my goodness this wedding set the bar high! Upon arriving to the Hickory Street Annex for this wedding, I could just tell this venue was giving all of the vintage industrial vibes. But not only was the outside charming and perfect for bride and groom photos, but the inside was where the real magic was at.
The inside windows paired with the lighting and the decor Melissa and Michael had, made for the most magical garden-esque wedding to photograph. I’m a sucker for natural light and the reception area allowed for the most beautiful lighting but also, once that sun set - the romantic lighting inside was perfect for flash photography.
From start to finish, everything about this day was beautiful. The florals designed by VineLea Studio, the centerpieces, the pearl detailing on the wedding dress, all the way to the shoes. Not to mention the bride and groom too. Melissa looked like a total movie star and practically took Michael’s breath away during their first look. While the first look was so special and such a sweet moment to photograph, Melissa made it doubly as special by surprising Michael with their sweet pup, Murphy (who totally stole the spotlight during these photos.)
Throughout the day, photographing Melissa and Michael was not only full of sweet moments, but it was just simply so stinking FUN because my goodness do they know how to make each other laugh. I remember this most about their wedding day, them - including their vendors were full of laughs.
Their reception was quite the party as well. They had a wonderful live band called the Royal Dukes Band, who kept the crowd on their feet all night, as well as a guest singer, Willie Shaw, who sang during Melissa and Michael’s first dance.
Aside from their wedding being such a beautiful and wonderful day to photograph, it truly is these two who I’m most excited to have met and gotten to know. Their lives ahead are going to be full of so much love, laughs, and all the good things because they will be together. And together they are amazing.
